I am not sure of the latest but I did hear a couple of weeks ago that
Abigail had to return to port. Probably because of the increased traffic on
the high seas as people sail solo. Maybe they should have considered
yacht-sharing. ;-)

Hmmm.. I dunno .. what do we know about him. A suspicious chap, wanted 
on criminal charges by a number of governments and persona-non-gratis by 
others. Known to tote around large quantities of explosives. Has a track 
record of inciting civil unrest & revolutions & having been behind 
numerous coups. So ... today he'd either be an employee of the CIA or a

She had to put in at Cabo san Lucas, Mexico, for some repairs and tweaking certain aspects of her boat. She has now restarted her round-the-world endeavour, still with over 2 months start on Jessica. You'll notice her boat bears the words "SHOE CITY". the name of one of her father's companies. The Abby vs Jess has become a footwear vs cosmetics race. :)

Michael, have you heard of Rhonda Roberts? She lives in the Illawarra area and has just got her first book published. She is on the Brisbane based vision writers mail list.

Weather report.........for VIENNA.

Highest temp over the next four days is on Sunday is 6 degrees cent.
Other four days are 1 degree to 4 degrees.......light rain and snow
......Sunday SUNNY!

My Berlin coat but I have only a month to land in it.........I do remember
f.... frozen Hamburg.....last time......even the sea edges in places were
frozen. All canals, lakes and inner waterways too......from a blow coming in
from the North Sea was Icicle pricks.......not hail...but tiny needles of
ice being driven in by the hard wind onshore..............
Good isn't it?

The average energy impinging on the Earth from solar radiation at the equator at noon is about 1 kilowatt per square metre. If even 10% of that energy could be harnessed our energy and greenhouse gas problems would be over. Here's an interesting little tale I worked out: if you were able to capture and use all of the sun's radiation, and you had a block of ice, cubic with each side 1 Km long ( that's 1 cubic kilometre or 1,000,000,000,000? or 10^12 litres) at 0 degrees Celsius, how long would it take to turn it into steam at 100 degrees Celsius? The answer is: about 8 nanoseconds, or eight billionths of a second.

As for calculating the distance from the Earth to the Sun, it might interest you to know that Captain Cook's voyage that led him to the east coast of Australia was preceded by an observation of a transit of Venus at Tahiti. This observation was important because more accurate measurements on transits of Venus and Mercury allowed better calculations of the distance from the Earth to the Sun.

As to close-ups of Pluto, there are already some relatively close-up pictures taken by the two outer Solar System probes that also photographed Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. However, better pictures may be on the way.
