Hi All,

I was flying back from Auckland last night and decided to watch Peter
Jackson's The Lovely Bones. Has anyone else seen it? The movie itself was
quite imaginative, if a little on the creepy side. However, the reason I
mention it is that early on in the movie there's a scene set in a mall. As
the camera pans across a bookshop, it slows noticeably so that the poster on
the window cannot be missed. And just to show that PJ still has Tolkien in
his head, the poster is an advertisement for The Lord of the Rings. To his
credit, it's for the book, not the movie.

Yeah....aren't movie directors sneaky..we all recall the tricks that Hitch
got up to....but there are heaps of other examples
.......says he trying to think of one.
an article bout a photo taken in the 40's came up in an English paper...prob
The Guardian...idiot bloggers all fancied that a guy in strange attire..prob
a college type almost T shirt with an even stranger device like part of a
tuba say around his neck...claimed that this guy was an outer spacer or
something a future to past guy....Twighlight Zone stuff...easy
...look at his sunglasses they all said...they JUST could not have been
around ib the 40's......the commentator (on the article) produces a still
shot from the glorious film 'Double Imdemity'.
If ya have not seen it...do yaself a favour...get it...there is the dame in
the film....the GREAT

star one.

After 16 days travel in Austria and Germany I am back in Vienna......in a
tiring but v novel trip I visited 7 Austrian towns and 5 German towns.
Some of them...........over 16 days
Memmigen
Augsburg
Passau
Straubing
Regensburg

Saltzburg
Freistadt
Graz
Zell am Zee
Innsbrucke.....I passed through Ingolstadt.....Munich und Linz

As I wrote...to Mike...I have a large book on the subject of Josef
Madlener'S LIFE WORK::::PAINTINGS AND DRAWING::
see 'The Spirit of the Mountains.'
I have been in ice cavesI outside Saltzburg...v memorable......have found
much inspiration in art works and Altstadts...inner city areas in nearly all
of the above cities.
So until 19th June...I am back home in Vienna.then home..home.

Hi Jeff. Glad to read that you're enjoying yourself and finding out lots of interesting stuff. I haven't heard from Michael (or for that matter anyone on this mail list) for a few weeks. We were in Tasmania from 7 to 15 of May, and I've got lots of photos - over 2000 would you believe? A feature: when we were at Cradle Mountain Lodge overnight, we awoke to find snow the next morning. I've got an animation gif on http://www.bullsheet.sf.org.au/bullsheet_99.html which shows 30 pictures of that snow.

Great photo Ted! Coincidentally, we were also in Tassie on the weekend of
the 15th and 16th. We were in Launceston. 

The e-mail front may be quite but everything else is in full gear. I've been
in correspondence with Rose Mitchell who is co-chairing Aussiecon 4, and who
has kindly given us a plug in their next progress report. I'm still short a
talk or two however, and I don't think it will be as large as the Sydney
moot. I note that the concurrent Tolkien Seminar in England is also
struggling to attract interest. Maybe if we tell the world that Tolkien had
werewolves in his stories things would be different. ;-)

Hi all,

I'm still alive .. obviously since the list is still processing posts. :)

Thanks for the travel update Jeff .. and the pix Ted .. I'll look at 'em 
tomorrow. Off to bed now ... Cynthia is sick with a bad cold, poor 
thing. :(  She hardly ever gets 'em so when she does it's a shock to her 
system .. unlike me who manages to get them several times a year. What I 
get for working at a school I daresay.

2000 pix? Sounds impressive. I bought myself a new camera a few months 
ago .. a Canon EOS 450D. Slowly learning how to use it.
